A simple to use ph test kit, use range =4-10, simply add 5 drops of fluid to 10 ml of pond water, shake and test gives instant result. Excellent value for money, should do around 30 tests.

Nitrite is produced by the beneficial bacteria in the pond and filters as they break down the harmful waste ammonia excreted by the fish. Nitrite can affect the health of fish but is not as toxic as ammonia, ideally test weekly in new ponds or after installing a new filter system. If you have a high reading a partial water change and the addition of a bacteria ( ie nt labs koi care filter bugs) should do the trick.
